Xiaomi is working on its first smart item tracker, and new leaks have largely clarified the device’s specifications and features. This upcoming product is currently known as the Xiaomi Tag, and information about it has emerged from a report by Android Headlines.

According to the leak, the Xiaomi Tag could be launched in two different variants. One version is expected to feature Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, while the other model may come without UWB. The variant with UWB support will provide more accurate location tracking, especially when the user wants to locate an object nearby.

The Xiaomi Tag is reported to use a CR2032 coin cell battery for power. This battery will be user-replaceable, extending the device’s life and ensuring long-term use.

Tracking features include the ability to view the tag’s location on a map. Furthermore, if an item attached to the tag is left behind, the phone may receive a “left-behind notification.” For connectivity, the tag may support Bluetooth and network-based tracking.

The pairing process will be simple. According to the report, the connection can be initiated by removing the protective layer on the tag and bringing it close to the phone. For privacy purposes, the Xiaomi Tag may also include the option to set a “Trusted” user to avoid unwanted tracker alerts.

All these features could be managed through HyperOS, providing system-level integration. For now, the initial availability of the Xiaomi Tag may be limited to China, and there’s no official confirmation on a global launch.
