There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Xiaomi HyperOS 3.1, but a significant reality has also emerged. HyperOS 3.1 is based on Android 16 and marks the beginning of Xiaomi’s new “AI-Native” software architecture. Because of this, many older, and some very popular, Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO smartphones have been excluded from this update.

HyperOS 3.1 includes new visual effects like Super Island, AI-based system features, a Live Updates API, and Android 16’s app pre-compilation system.

All these features require newer hardware and improved NPU support, which is not fully available in older chipsets like the Snapdragon 870 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This is why Xiaomi has drawn a clear line between legacy and newer “Hyper” devices.
