Android 16 Introduces Flashlight Brightness Control, a Feature Already Familiar to Xiaomi Users

Google has officially introduced the Flashlight Brightness Control feature in the latest Android 16 Canary update.

This new system allows users to control the flashlight’s intensity directly from the Quick Settings panel. This feature has been available on Xiaomi smartphones for some time, but it has now been integrated into stock Android.

Adjust Flashlight Brightness Directly from Quick Settings

In Android 16, users can now adjust the flashlight brightness by tapping or long-pressing the Flashlight icon. This feature was first spotted in an early Android 16 Canary build about two months ago, but the latest update offers a more stable and smoother implementation, making it practical for everyday use.

System-Level Integration for Improved Performance

This new Android system is directly integrated with the hardware-level flashlight driver. This means users won’t need to open a separate app to control the brightness. This reduces response time and saves battery in situations where full brightness is not required.

Xiaomi Users Already Have This Feature

This feature has been available on Xiaomi smartphones for over a year. Devices running MIUI and later HyperOS have long allowed users to control the flashlight brightness.

Xiaomi integrated this feature deeply into the system to improve battery efficiency and daily usability.

HyperOS’s Hardware-Software Integration Strength

Xiaomi’s HyperOS is known for its deep hardware and software integration. Features like Flashlight Brightness Control are managed through HyperConnect services, enabling faster communication between system layers and hardware. This results in a quick and stable response when adjusting hardware features in real time.

This initial step by Xiaomi demonstrates the company’s long-standing focus on small but useful everyday features.

Currently Available Only in Canary Version

Currently, this feature is only available in the Canary build of Android 16, which is considered an early developer version.

Therefore, further improvements may be made before its stable public release. According to reports, companies like Xiaomi may integrate it even better into their upcoming HyperOS updates with their custom system optimisations.
