Xiaomi is preparing to take its in-house flagship chipset project to the next level. According to recent reports, the company’s next-generation processor, the XRing O2, will not be limited to smartphones but could be used in phones, tablets, cars, and even PCs. This is why this chip could become the backbone of Xiaomi’s entire ecosystem, not just a simple hardware upgrade.

When to Expect the XRing O2

According to a report by the Chinese media outlet Cailian Press, the XRing O2 could be launched in the first half of this year (H1). This chip will be the successor to the XRing O1, which Xiaomi introduced last year as a flagship-level SoC designed to challenge companies like Apple and Qualcomm directly.

New Chip to be Built on 3nm Process

The report also states that the XRing O2 will be manufactured using TSMC’s N3P (3nm) process. This is the same process expected to be used for the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Apple A19 Pro chips. While some users were hoping for a 2nm process, given the development timeline, it is considered unlikely that Xiaomi will be able to adopt TSMC’s 2nm node at this time.

A Significant Expansion from XRing O1

While the XRing O1 was used in a limited capacity in the Xiaomi 15S Pro, Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra, and Pad 7S Pro, the XRing O2 is planned for a much wider range of devices. According to the report, Xiaomi could use it in its smartphones, electric cars, and PCs.

The XRing O2 clearly demonstrates that Xiaomi is no longer just a phone brand but aims to become a full-stack tech ecosystem company. If this chip truly makes its way into phones, cars, and PCs, it could be a major turning point in Xiaomi’s hardware strategy and bring the company even closer to Apple and Qualcomm.
